William Shakespeare was a regular visitor to the old manor library where he reputedly wrote "As You Like It" and in 1639 his last remaining granddaughter married in the private chapel on the estate. Modern comforts have been added and all the 62 rooms have the facilities expected of a 4* hotel. "The Spa", which houses a swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room, beauty treatments and restaurant provides a wonderful environment in which to unwind, for the more energetic there are tennis courts and a croquet lawn.
